The Crashing Wave

Growing up in Wales, the coastline became part of my visual memory — dramatic skies, restless water, rocks beneath your feet and the feeling that the landscape was somehow bigger than yourself.

When I paint the sea, I'm not trying simply to reproduce what I see. I'm trying to recreate what it feels like to stand there.

That is what I wanted to capture in The Crashing Wave.

A moment of energy.

A memory of the coast.

A reminder of something wild and enduring.
