The Folly at Fontainebleau

An original oil painting capturing the Carp Pond and its small classical folly in the grounds of the Château de Fontainebleau.

Surrounded by dense summer foliage, the little white pavilion catches the light across the water, while the trees and sky dissolve into loose, colourful reflections. I was particularly drawn to the contrast between the architectural simplicity of the folly and the almost wild abundance of green surrounding it.

The painting is as much about the feeling of being in Fontainebleau as the place itself — the stillness of the water, the filtered summer light and those fleeting moments when a familiar landscape becomes a memory.

Painted in oils on stretched canvas, with expressive brushwork and layers of colour that allow the canvas texture to remain part of the image.
